The Complete History of GOD

Being the thoughts and observations of V. Moghan esq.

Preface: In The Beginning

In the beginning there was the VOID. And it was infinite & perfect, though admittedly a little dull. And the Lord God, the Supreme Creator, turned his gaze upon it & thought, “It needs a little something, I don’t know, to jazz it up a little maybe”. And LO, at this mere thought, there was something. What it was we do not know, but something it surely was; after all even the most miniscule thought in the Head of the Supreme, is bigger than anything you or I could even come close to imagining. Whatever it was, GOD liked it, so he decided to think some more. And as He thought, there were more things, also unimaginable, until the vast Void was no longer so empty. Now God, being a man, couldn’t make up his mind whether He liked these things or not, so He spent some more eternities pondering the abstracts He’d created. And He liked them not, they lacked a certain something, symmetry perhaps. And He was mightily miffed, so with a simple side thought he banished them from the void.

Book I: The First Thought

Many aeons passed in this manner. And the Void remained unmolested. The Lord needed some time out after His great exertions, what with spring-cleaning & all. He allowed Himself to fall into a bottomless torpor. Eternities passed &, finally, He thought to rouse Himself & look for some new purpose in His daily routine, some break or maybe a new hobby, anything. So, once more turning His attention to the job at hand, He made Himself comfortable upon the ether, & set to the task of thinking, conceptualising & so forth. Now God had had countless schemes & thoughts in the past, which He had abandoned as unworthy. In fact the Void had been His only truly satisfying project thus far. Now though He was determined to best His great creation. It was only now, He felt, He had reached the zenith of His creative powers & that rightly, this was the moment to begin His great Master Work.

Book II: The Great Project i

And the Lord, having had a good long weekend, felt ready to think His new creation into existence. Sitting comfortably on the ether, the Supreme One began the arduous process of conception. He pictured, as the over view, something vast & bright, all peace & beauty, tranquillity & perfect symmetry, encapsulated. A vision of rapturous glory, that would enthral, & seduce, a creation so complete so perfect that even He would have trouble bettering it. He could, when He closed His Eyes, almost touch it, He could practically taste it on His Tongue, in fact it made Him drool a little at the very notion of His Great Plan. Three eternal days passed, & He hadn’t got much further, & by now the Drool was gathered in a veritable ocean at His great Feet.

Book II: The Great Project ii

The longer the Lord of All Things thought the more His Great Head became enlarged. And He was so deeply in concentration that He noticed it not. By the Sixth Day His Head had begun to exceed the boundaries of the Void, which was scary, & yet He still took no notice. Until on the Morning of the Seventh Day His engorged Head met the very outer limits of the Void. It was here that imminent disaster awaited. Lurking under the rug of Time, in the cracks of the floor boards of Eternity, there hid a sharp fragment of His previous thoughts, which, by an uncharacteristic oversight, had been missed during His Great spring clean…

Book IV: The Big Bang

As His Great Head, enlarging, swelling beyond belief, scraped past this insignificant shard…

Prologue: The Aftermath I

The catastrophe that ensued lasted for an eternity longer, in fact quite a few eternities. And every atom of His thoughts, every modicum of a flickering concept that had passed His vast genius, was scattered to the four corners of the unfathomable emptiness of the Void. And every ion, every quark, every infinitesimal particle of His past thought, contained one of those never-made projects, one of those rejected notions, those bad ideas. And these populated every inch of the vastness, & went spinning on & building in heat & generating sparks that forever banished the darkness, that perfect blackness, from its position of majestic dominion.

Prologue: The Aftermath II

Long aeons passed in this chaos, this unending whirl. Eventually, as is the way of things, the spinning mass began to settle into a formless shape, an amorphous organisation. And upon each of these specks, those never made creations, those abandoned projects, whims, fancies, imperfections began to move, slither & crawl about their newly cooled worlds. They began to perceive the boundaries of their aimless existence. All those bad ideas, dinosaurs, elephants, dodos, humans, cockroaches, little grey men, tall green men, and all manner of countless variations on the organic theme, that had passed, albeit fleetingly, through His infinite intellect, rejected, & even ridiculed by Himself, took shape and thrived, multiplying their abomination throughout the wide world. On they went, replicating themselves, & with every generation became more smug. Soon some developed a notion of the possibility of a creator behind Creation, & so became pious, & lived in awe.

Thus Fear was born…

Prologue: The Aftermath III

AND SO IT WAS THAT WE CAME TO BE. AND SO IT IS THAT WE ARE WHAT WE ARE, WHERE WE ARE. WITH OUR DIVERSE BELIEFS, WHICH ARE NOT SO DIVERSE AFTER ALL. AND THUS, WITH OUR MULTIFARIOUS FORMS, WHICH ARE FUNDAMENTALLY ONE FORM, IN INFINITE VARIETY. AND IT IS THEREFORE THAT WE ARE LOST, IN DESPERATE SEARCH FOR SENSE, FOR REASON…
FOR JUSTIFICATION.

This piece was written as the script for a Flash animation when I first started designing for the web in 2005, and a sort of a rif on the supercilious style of Biblical translations into English.
