Nikkor 200mm ƒ/4 Ai | 31.10.25
In my previous “technical” report I very excitedly announce my first view of my new second hand 85mm, from “mpb“ camera dealership, and how incredibly pleased I was to finally add that focal length to my small, but very lovely collection of prime Nikkor lenses. Well today, 31st October 2025, I got my other always-wanted, never-bought, lens, the 200mm Nikkor lens. Below I post a couple of very quickly and honestly carelessly shot frames on my D750. I have posted the JPEGs, as mentioned below, directly made from the RAW files with no other processing or corrections. Since it was already dark when the package arrived and I had no lighting set up I just fired off a few shots with with a stupidly high setting of ISO 12800, so, as you will note they are pretty grainy, no matter.
As far as I can see it is in beautiful condition. Clean, no distortion or drop off so the elements are fine, and all for the price of €52. I cannot say better than that.
Before I forget, the 31st happens to be my wife’s birthday, and the order for the 200mm was kind of a sneaky one on my part since in that order I was buying a 20mm AF ƒ/2.8 for her, and the devil may care attitude in me made me order the 200 for myself while I was about it. I am very happy that the parcel arrived exactly in time to present her with her new lens. In the next few days I will write an article about that lens too.
For a very informative review of the 200mm you can check the brilliant Ken Rockwell‘s meticulously comprehensive tests.
Below are two RAW test shots taken as soon as the 200mm arrived, just a quick check. No correction done and honestly not even all that carefully exposed.
