Syggrou Grove | Kifissia | 06.04.24
The Syggrou (pronounced Syngrou) Estate is a magnificent park/nature reserve/botanical nursery in the Kifissia district of Athens.
My wife Cassi and I make it a habit to explore this marvellous city of ours practically every weekend, photographing and documenting this ever changing place. The city of Athens has a reputation amongst foreigners as a chaotic and often ugly and dry place, with only the ancient areas presenting anything beautiful for the tourist or visitor.
Nothing could be further from the truth. This ancient city still has so much in terms of architecture and urban beauty to offer, but where it really shines is in how much of the land’s nature is still fully accessible, unlike many other modern cities where you would be hard pushed to find real natural areas. Here in Athens the great advantage is also the highlands which allow the visitor amazing vistas of the city sweeping out from the mountains that surround it all the way to the glistening bay of Piraeus.
We have lived here for thirty years this year and still regularly find new sites to enjoy and be blown away by.
